Anhydrous Na S: Very soluble in water: ~43.7 g/100 mL at 20 C Dissolves readily with an alkaline solution formation (pH ~12 13) Hydrated Na S (Na S 9H O): Even more soluble due to pre-existing water of crystallization

Usage
1. Chemical Industry As a raw material for producing sulfur dyes, thio-organic compounds, and sodium hydrosulfide (NaSH). Acts as a reducing agent in some chemical reactions. 2. Pulp & Paper Industry Used in the Kraft pulping process to break down lignin and extract cellulose. 3. Leather Industry Serves as a dehairing and depilation agent during leather processing. 4. Textile Industry For bleaching, dyeing, and removing natural pigments from fibers. 5. Water Treatment Precipitates heavy metals from wastewater as insoluble sulfides. Detoxifies industrial effluents containing metal ions. 6. Mining & Metallurgy Helps in ore flotation and extraction of metal sulfides. 7. Other Uses Photographic chemicals: As a component in some fixers or developers. Rubber industry: Acts as a vulcanization accelerator in certain processes. Organic synthesis: As a nucleophile or reducing agent.
